random word of the day: A CANDY CANE

random word of the day:  A CANDY CANE – świąteczny lizak w kształcie laski o smaku miętowym (Christmas cane-shaped candy, traditionally red and white and peppermint-flavoured; also available in different flavours and colour combinations)

(1) Each year I like to hang candy canes on the Christmas tree. Not only do they look pretty, but if you get hungry, you can grab one as a snack.

(2) My husband brought home two boxes of candy canes last night – some to put on the tree, and some just to munch on. One box was peppermint, and the other was cherry flavored.

(3) We used to steal candy canes off the tree when mom and dad weren’t looking.

(4) Hey Santa can you bring me something sweet? Like chocolate kisses or candy canes, gumdrops, or butterscotch, fruity flavour chewy rings.

(5) Stir your hot drinks with candy canes. There is nothing tastier than a hint of peppermint in your tea, coffee, or hot chocolate.

(6) Alfred’s got a thing for angels and candy canes.

to grab: tu. zjeść na szybko, dosł. chwytać, porwać (here: to eat, also to catch)
as a snack – jako przekąskę (to have something to eat in between meals)
to munch on something – chrupać (to eat something, especially noisily)
butterscotch – kajmak, cukierki o smaku kajmakowym, etc.,  (a syrup, sauce, candy, or flavouring made by melting butter and brown sugar together)
chewy – ciągnące się (describes food that needs to be chewed (= crushed with the teeth) a lot before it is swallowed)
to stir – pomieszać (to mix a liquid or other substance by moving an object such as a spoon in a circular pattern)
a hint – nutka (a very small amount of something)
to have a thing for something – coś bardzo lubić (to like, to have an attraction for something/ somebody)
